Solar fruit dryer

The design task was to create a device that, using solar energy, would accelerate the drying of fruits for the needs of single-family homes and small farms. In the design process, we focused not only on the principle of operation and construction of the tools but also on the human-friendly aspect, which surprisingly yielded pleasant effects. The concept, based on significantly stronger heating of dark surfaces compared to light ones, as well as the upward movement of warm air, formed the basis for the development of three completely different devices.

For the construction of heating elements we used garbage: empty plastic water bottles, cans, sheet of steel and old sheet of PVC from one of another projects.

Stationary

The black, quickly heating surface is bent into an arc covering 60 degrees. Thanks to this, it uses a wide range of sunlight from morning to late afternoon. The device can be expanded with additional modules so it can catch sunshine during all day long. It expands it angle to 120 degrees (2 modules) and even 180 degrees (3 modules).

Window

Dried fruit without leaving home? A window fruit dryer will make this possible. You will have access to the delicacies immediately after opening the window and lifting the lid of one of the drying modules.

Freestanding tray

A single, elegant in its simplicity version of the window type. Thanks to the use of flexible cork material, the fruit compartment can expand into a full tray for serving elegant fruit candies.
